An event’s website and online presence is its ‘shop window’ for the digital realm. It is often the first touch point your customer interacts with after hearing about an event from word of mouth, so it’s important that it functions correctly, is aesthetically pleasing, is consistently branded across all platforms, and serves the customer’s needs.
For this assessment, you will be producing a live website for your event, based on your event concept and brand guidelines. You will need to include the minimum page functions as follows:
The pages do not have to be called these exact names, for example an info page may also be titled as ‘about us, about the event, learn more, line up, what’s on’ etc, or other similarly information-focused name. You can tailor it to suit your brand tone of voice, as long as the content is descriptive of the event and the page essentially functions the same.
To create this website, you will be using a website template builder. There are plenty of these platforms available, we recommend Wix or Squarespace as they are free to use on their basic plans and have a wide range of templates, however you can also use GoDaddy and Weebly as they are also free, or any other platform you’re aware of as long as it fits the needs of the assignment. You will need to create a free account, we do not recommend purchasing any features whilst doing this assessment, it should all be done using free drag-and-drop features.
This assessment will be marked on the quality of written information, including domain and page names, the usability of the site, the consistency and quality of the branding, and the overall feel and fit to brief of the end product.
There is an example of a skeleton site here. On your site, you would be expected to complete all text and sections and not leave any example text.
The platforms are very intuitive and should not be too difficult to get your head around once you start creating, however there are some links below to some basic tutorials for each platform mentioned here:
